Extra White Border For Prints

All of my prints are cut to the edge of the paintings, which is a great option when framing in a regular frame of a specific size or framed with a matt. However, if you need a border of extra canvas around your print for any reason be sure to choose this option in the check-out process. I have the option to add 1” or 2” of extra white canvas around you print if needed. If you need more than 2” please contact me and I can create a custom listing for you.

The following are a few reasons you may want to add a few inches of extra white border around you print.

  • STRETCHING YOUR PRINT

-If you want to stretch your print like a traditional painters canvas you will need to add extra canvas to your print.

-HOWEVER, If you choose to do this I strongly suggest getting the mirrored border add-on to you print opposed to a just a plain white border add-on. This way the painting will be reflected on the sides of the stretched canvas instead of it just being white on the sides. You can read more about the mirrored border add-on option here as well as information on getting your print stretched here.

  • BJÖRKSTA IKEA Frame

-If you plan to put you print into the IKEA BJÖRKSTA frame there are two ways you can do it.

    1) With the frame on the outside of the print - for this option I believe it is best if you add on at least an extra 1” border around your print for ease of installation.

    2) With the print on the outside of the frame- a hack for a do it yourself stretched print. However, this is not my favorite look since the depth of the frame is only about an inch. I tend to find that any stretched canvas under the depth of 1.5” does not look great a stand alone piece but this is a matter of personal preference. If you choose to do go this route I suggest doing the 1” depth mirrored boarder add-on instead of the white border since the canvas will be wrapping around the frame and if you don’t want to see a white border on the sides of the frame.

    * Visit the IKEA website BJÖRKSTA product page where they have a video of the different ways to frame your print in this frame. It may help to understand and visualize the process. I have been discussing.

  • IN LOU OF A MATT

-Some prefer the white canvas border around the print opposed to adding a matt to the print in the framing process.

-Keep in mind this will be adding ON to the print. For example. If you buy and 8x10 print and you add on and extra 2” of white border you will then have 10x12 and will need to have the frame to accommodate that size.

-Again, this extra white border you can add-on around the print is not the same as a border that you would achieve with adding a matt to your print.

If you have any questions or need further clarification on what I have discussed here please reach out. I am happy to go over any questions you may have.
